Marble Material

I made this a few months ago and held off on posting for a while in case I ever decided I needed to improve some things. I was inspired to do this during a trip to Portland, ME, in which I stayed in a hotel with a very cool marble pattern in the bathroom, which led to me taking a half-dozen photos mid-shower.

During this project, I discovered three secrets that *really* help sell the effect as best as possible. The first would be when I made the various layers of darker shapes, I would use a shadow effect and multiply it onto itself to sharpen the edges, an effect that exists on many real-world marble patterns. Second, non-uniform blurs were used on any dark shape so it would appear to fade into the depth of the surface, and third, the effect was finished by applying noise and basic slope blur to make it stronger based on how far "back" the shape was.
